Bachelor Degree

Bachelor Degree

Degree Overview and Flexibility

  • Award: Bachelor of Business (equivalent to the on-campus degree).

  • Total Credit Points: 360 credit points (24 subjects).3

  • Duration: Typically 3 years full-time equivalent, or up to 6 years part-time.4 The OUA model allows you to enrol in as few as one subject per study period (or "term"), giving you complete control over your pace.

  • Learning Mode: 100% Online.5 You study each subject from anywhere, which is ideal for those balancing work, family, or other commitments.6

Course Structure and Specialisation

The degree is built around three main components: Core Subjects, a Major, and Electives.7

1. Core Subjects (Mandatory Foundation)8

You complete 8 core subjects (60 credit points) that provide a broad foundation across essential business disciplines.9 These include the four Open Access Pathway subjects you learned about:

  • Data Analytics Concepts

  • Economic Issues and Public Policy

  • Sustainability

  • Organisational Behaviour

  • Plus subjects in areas like Accounting and Marketing.10

2. Major Specialisation (120 Credit Points)

You must choose one primary major consisting of 8 subjects.11 While La Trobe's on-campus degree offers many, the online OUA version typically focuses on these four high-demand specialisations:

  • Agribusiness: Focuses on the business and management of the agricultural and food supply industries.12

  • Digital Business: Equips you with skills to manage and lead businesses in the digital economy, covering e-commerce, digital transformation, and emerging tech.13

  • Management: Develops essential leadership, strategy, human resources, and organisational skills to manage teams and drive business goals.14

  • Marketing: Covers consumer behaviour, market research, digital marketing, and strategic communication.

3. Electives, Minors, or Second Major (180 Credit Points)

The remaining 180 credit points offer significant flexibility. You can structure this portion of your degree by choosing to complete:

  • A Second Major (120 CP): Choose another business major from the list above.

  • A Minor (60 CP) and Electives (120 CP): Choose a four-subject minor and use the remaining subjects as electives.

  • Two Minors (120 CP) and Electives (60 CP).

  • 12 Elective Subjects (180 CP): Choose electives from within the Business school, or from a broad range of Arts/Humanities disciplines also offered online through OUA, such as Psychology, History, or Criminology, to broaden your skillset.

OUA Pathway and Entry

The OUA pathway is specifically designed to provide a flexible entry route if you do not meet the direct ATAR requirement or if you are a mature-age student without recent secondary study.
