1. When is My Bin Day?
Never miss a bin collection! Find your scheduled bin collection day using one of these convenient methods:
- Waste App: The Council's Waste app is your personal waste management assistant. Download it to your smartphone to receive timely reminders and notifications the night before your bin collection day.
- Waste Collection Map and Calendar: We have detailed resources available online to help you determine your bin day. Use the interactive waste collection map (PDF) to locate your property and then consult the corresponding waste calendar for your week:
- Customer Care: If you're having trouble finding your information or have specific questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our friendly Customer Care Team at 1300 123 123. They are available to assist you with any waste-related inquiries.
Important Note: We understand that holidays can be confusing. Rest assured that your regular bin collection schedule remains unchanged on public holidays and major holiday periods (e.g., Easter, Christmas, New Year's Eve).
2. Bin Collection Frequency
We offer different bin collection frequencies based on the type of waste to help you manage your household or business waste effectively:
- Landfill bins (red lid): Your general waste bin is collected weekly to ensure proper disposal of non-recyclable and non-compostable items.
- Recycle bins (yellow lid): We collect recyclable materials fortnightly. Please ensure that only accepted recyclable items are placed in this bin to avoid contamination.
- Food and garden waste bins (green lid): These bins are designed for organic waste and are also collected fortnightly, on the alternate weeks from your recycling bin collection.
3. Missed Bin Collection
If your bin was not collected on its scheduled day, there are a few things you can do:
- Check for Obstructions: Ensure your bin is placed correctly on the nature strip, free from any obstructions like parked cars or overhanging branches.
- Report It Promptly: If your bin is clear and accessible, please report a missed bin online or contact our Customer Care Team at 1300 123 123 within one business day of the missed collection.
- Leave Your Bin Out: Leave your bin on the nature strip until it's emptied. We'll do our best to catch up as soon as possible.
4. Damaged or Missing Bins
Damaged Bins:
- Repairs: We offer free repairs for bin lids, pins, and wheels. Request a bin repair online or by calling 1300 123 123.
- Replacement: If your bin is severely damaged (split, holes, broken base, or damaged handle), you can request a free replacement. Request a replacement bin online or by calling 1300 123 123.
Missing Bins:

5. New or Different Bins
We understand your waste needs may change over time. Here's how you can request new or different bins:
Residential:
- If you need to change your bin size, waste type, or order additional bins, simply complete the change to residential waste service bins form (PDF) or call 1300 123 123. We'll process your request as quickly as possible.
Business:
- Council offers tailored waste collection services to businesses. You can order a new business waste service, renew, change, or cancel your service. Please note that garden waste bins are not included in our standard commercial waste service.
Not-for-Profits:
- Not-for-profit organizations can conveniently request or renew bins online.
6. Bin Stickers
If you find a sticker on your bin, it indicates that it contains items that are not accepted in that bin type. Please remove the items listed on the sticker and then call 1300 123 123 to arrange for collection.
7. Proper Bin Placement
Proper bin placement ensures efficient and safe collection:
- Place your bin on the nature strip with the Council logo facing the street.
- Maintain a 30cm space between each bin to allow our collection vehicles easy access.
- Avoid placing bins near trees, parked cars, or other obstacles.
- Do not overfill your bins. The lid should close completely.
- Avoid leaving extra bags or boxes beside your bins, as these will not be collected.
8. Reporting Illegal Dumping
Illegal dumping is a serious offense. If you witness illegal dumping, please take note of any relevant details (e.g., vehicle registration, description of the person dumping) and report dumped rubbish online or call 1300 123 123.
9. Extra Recycling Bin
If you consistently have more recyclables than your current bin can handle, you can request a second recycling bin for free by calling 1300 123 123.
10. Why Not Bag Your Recycling?
While it may seem convenient, please avoid placing recyclables in plastic bags. Bagged recyclables cannot be effectively sorted at our recycling facilities and may end up in landfill. Placing recyclables loose in your bin allows for proper sorting and ensures that more materials can be recycled.
