Lactalis Australia is one of the country's leading dairy companies.¹ While our parent company is the largest dairy group in the world, our roots in Australia run deep, dating back to the 1930s.²

You likely see us every day in your local supermarket. We are the company behind many of Australia’s most loved brands, including Pauls Milk, Oak, Ice Break, and Vaalia.³

• Global Roots: We are the Australian subsidiary of the Lactalis Group, a family-owned business based in France.⁴ Founded in 1933, the Lactalis Group has grown to become the world's largest fresh dairy company.⁵

• Local Heritage: In Australia, our history began with the opening of the Pauls milk factory on the banks of the Brisbane River in the 1930s.⁶ Over the decades, we have evolved (you may remember us formerly as Parmalat or QUF), but our commitment to Australian farmers and manufacturing remains unchanged.

What’s New in 2025?

We are currently in an exciting period of growth. In late 2025, Lactalis Australia announced a major agreement to acquire Fonterra’s Australian consumer business.

• What this means: Pending final completion in 2026, we will be welcoming iconic brands like Western Star Butter, Perfect Italiano, and Mainland Cheese into the Lactalis family.

• Our Goal: This move is designed to strengthen our ability to supply high-quality Australian dairy to families across the country.

1. Supporting Local Farmers: We work closely with hundreds of Australian dairy farmers, collecting milk from regions across Queensland, Victoria, NSW, WA, SA, and Tasmania.

2. Sustainability: We are committed to achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2050. This includes initiatives to reduce plastic in our packaging and improve energy efficiency at our processing plants.

3. Quality & Safety: We adhere to the highest food safety standards to ensure every product that leaves our factories is safe, nutritious, and delicious.
